Underwriter (Delegated Authority)

Contribute and assist in the underwriting and management of delegated underwriting portfolios to deliver the agreed business plan while ensuring that it runs within the appetite and operational parameters of AICL and the wider Antares Group. To manage all aspects of new and existing Cover holder relationships and take responsibility for monitoring of key performance indicators.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Completed or working towards ACII qualification
  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of insurance and reinsurance and its applications
  • Experience of Delegated Underwriting practices and principles
  • Proven Underwriting ability/competence
  • Demonstrate a high level of understanding insurance and intermediary markets
  • Ability to think and act strategically and operationally
  • Self-motivated with ability to operate independently and within teams while maintaining underwriting discipline to achieve strategic objectives
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication, professionalism, sales/marketing and presentation skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Open-minded, trustworthy, and enthusiastic
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills

Day to Day Duties Include

  • Underwriting in accordance with business strategy
  • Underwriting in accordance with performance requirements
  • Underwriting in accordance with legislation, regulation and company policies
  • Underwriting in accordance with personal underwriting authority
  • Achieve business and financial plans
  • Assistance in establishing and continually reviewing AICL’s underwriting philosophy and strategy, risk appetite, resources available and market developments
  • Monitoring, measurement and analysis of performance KPI’s
  • Reporting to stakeholders as required
  • Building effective relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Identification of potential new opportunities and products to assist in maximising results and achieving income targets.
  • Maintain high level of product, pricing and distribution knowledge
  • Execute agreed business plan by applying most suitable risk selection, pricing and coverages while maintaining appropriate portfolio balance
  • Effective management and monitoring of delegated services (both internal and external)
  • Support and relevant liaison with other internal functions and teams as required (including Reserving, Pricing, Claims, Reinsurance, Legal and Finance)
